One of the things that irritated us the most about the High Museum of Art was the lack of art in important spaces. It seemed almost as if the museum did not want to distract us from our view of the building's incredible spaces with those bothersome paintings and sculptures that artists love to do so much. A good example of this is the round atrium that is featured in the photograph above. We could not figure out why the museum did not take one incredible monumental sculpture and feature on the ground level of the atrium or one incredible large hanging sculpture. This space is much too grand to use it to hang cheap exhibition banners in.
We may have caught the museum between exhibitions or installations in this space, but there were no signs that this was the case.
