The sheer number of orchids and the amazing variety of species on display here was astounding. We could not believe the infinite variety of shapes, forms, structures, colors and patterns that these odd life forms take. We could have come back for a second day and still had a lot to discover in the conservatories. We have documented a large number of these orchids and other exotic plants in our Virtual Tour of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens Orchid Center. Out of the hundreds of photographs we took that day, we tried to choose the absolute best to present to you.
The Orchid Center is divided into three sections, a 5,000-square-foot exhibit room called Orchid Hall, another large exhibit called the High Elevation House, and a 6,000 square foot Orchid Display House.
The gift shop at the gardens is one of the best museum gift shops that we have seen in a very long time. If it was closer, we would be going here quite often for their unique and distinctive items. Whoever is doing their buying is one incredibly smart retailer with a great eye for marvelous things.
Regular admission to the gardens is $12.00, and we feel that it is one of Atlanta’s best entertainment bargains. It is open year round from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM or later in the summer. They are open every day except Monday, Tuesday through Sunday.

*Note: We visited the Gardens in January, on one of Atlanta’s coldest days of the winter of 2008. The outdoor gardens were in deep hibernation then, so we did not get to experience them in their full glory. In warm weather, this would make the gardens even more irresistible and an even better value.
The ABG website is one of the most charming museum or nonprofit websites that we have ever experienced. It is clean, cutting edge, informative and entertaining.
